Dollaghan and Salmon runs begin
13 July 2008
With a series of medium-sized floods in recent weeks, club anglers have reported seeing good numbers of large springer salmon and dollaghan at the weir in Castledawson.
A number of dollaghan have already been caught in the lower stretches of the river, but these trout have also been making their way further upstream, with Greg English landing a dollaghan at the Weddlebridge Stretch on Friday, July 11.
With more unsettled weather forecast, we will hopefully see more salmon making their way into the Moyola, although the main run of grilse have not as yet appeared in the Lower Bann.
Club competitions have been continuing through the summer months with some great catches of brown trout recorded. Tommy McGrath reports...
