Open Day 2009

13 October 2009

On Saturday 10th October the moyola angling association held it 3rd annual open day.

The event has now become one of the most important dates on the clubs calendar.

150 children along with their parents enjoyed a fun filled and educational day at Bradleys lake Tobermore.

Once again the vast majority of budding young anglers had the experience of hooking and landing a trout, which were stocked for the event

Chairman of the moyola angling association Philip Maguire expressed his delight at how proceedings went and promised to make the event even better next year.

Apart from the Angling we had a fantastic display from the Northern Ireland Falconry Association.    John Carmichael brought along a selection of hawks, vultures and harriers to give the crowd an insight into the birds of prey.

The duck race proved to be   a big hit with the younger kids. Forty eight children entered the four heats with the eventual winner Graham Johnston winning a new fly fishing reel.

Kyle mc Elhatton was the winner of the casting competition .

The following day a competition was held at the lake and a total of 250 was raised for the Downs Syndrome Association of Northern Ireland.

The winner was Willie Darragh with 13lb 4oz and second place went to Patsy Harkin with 11lb 2oz. All fish were returned.

A big thankyou must go to everyone who put in a huge effort in the lead up to and on the day of the event. Special thanks must go to John Carmicheal of the Northern Ireland Falconry Association and Martin Donnelly who provided and cooked the food for the event.

Bradleys lake will remain open until 31st October with catch & release being encouraged
