Castledawson river works

A major new project to improve access for anglers along the river at Castledawson has begun.
 
The project which is funded by the Lough Neagh Partnership and the Moyola ANgling Association will also enhance spawning areas in this part of the river.
 

AREA 1

From castledawson bridge to end of gabions (scotch mill hole)

 

20 metres of three stone high rock

25 metres of two stone high rock

60 metres of one stone high rock

20 metres of two stone high rock

20 metres to be scraped along top of gabions

 

AREA 2

From end of gabions to pipe at water treatment plant

  (between scotch mill hole and mc swiggans)

 

30 metres of two and a half stone high rock

horse shoe groin with spawning gravel

 

AREA 3

From pipe at water treatment plant to trees (mc swiggans)

 

40 metres of two stone high rock

6 plumb stones dug into river bed

 

AREA 4

From trees to mill street bridge (area above mc swiggans)

 

30 metres of two stone high rock

6 plumb stones dug into river bed

repair half groin

remove groin 30 metres below bridge

sixteen metres of two stone high rock ( if we have enough material)
