Philip is the new Chairman

Monday, February 2, 2009
PHILLIP Maguire has been unanimously voted in as the new Chairman of the Moyola Angling Association.

At last week's AGM Seamus Donnelly stood down from the top position after three very successful years at the helm, handing over the reigns to Phillip who has been at the heart of club competitions, events and work parties for the last number of years.

In front of one of the biggest turnouts ever seen at an Annual General Meeting, Phillip said he hoped to continue the good work of the club, both in competitions and ongoing conservation projects.

In the guestbook, outgoing Chairman Seamus Donnelly said: "I would to thank the committee for the last three years work. Like everything else in life it had its ups and downs, but the Moyola Angling Association has a fantastic hard working committee who all have one thing in common and that's the protection of angling and conservation along the moyola river.
"No one person believes he/she is better than the next. I hope the committee work as hard for our new chairman as they did for me.
"So good luck Philip on your new position. I along with the rest of the boys will be there for you when you need abit of advice or a pull out."

As usual there was plenty of lively debate among the anglers at the AGM, proving once again the growing interest in the Moyola and our beloved sport of angling.

Competition Secretary, Tommy McGrath reported on a record breaking year of attendances at competitions especially in the junior division in 2008 and looked forward to further success in 09.

Club Secretary Jack  Chapman also spoke of the limited number of Associate Membership places available for the coming season, as more and more angler seek to join this vibrant club.
