Today we visited the Seven Arches on the outskirts of Draperstown to release the Salmon that we have  looked after for the last six weeks. The folks at Sperrin Gateway and Moyola Angling Club were amazing and they came out in numbers to see our little friends of!! A huge thank you!! The weather was amazing and the atmosphere was fab!! We arrived in the morning and all the pupils were so excited!! We were all wrapped up nicely in our snug clothing. We started by collecting some mini-beasts that are in the water- we did this by using nets and simply kicking the water into the nets. Once we had gathered our new tiny friends, we transferred them safely into a bucket to allow us to bring them back to class to identify them. The pupils had a blast doing this. Then it was time to say our final goodbyes to our salmon, we waved them off as they swam away and we promised we would see them again soon.. When we got back to class, the folks from Sperrin Gateway and some from the Angling Club came back and we used our new Easi-Scope to provide a close up inspection of the mini-beasts, this was so much fun. We learned so much and guess what... its not over yet! In June, S2 are visiting Bushmills to see the Salmon Station- hey maybe we will even see our little friends? Watch this space!!
