Thanks for pointing that out phillip,i would never of known.Though when you see a bag of small trout,"the size of kippers"at a competion, you would begin to wonder if you where at a coarse fishing competion.

Hello to all firstly i am not an angler on the moyola i am from farther afield have been looking at ur guest book interesting debate on fish numbers catch and release etc,i would have to be in aggreement with less fish being taken dont know what ur bag limit is regarding trout especially wild fish less of these should be taken i would agree with DODO 3 trout would be a resonable catch take as for salmon these are in dangerous decline and should never be killed, the maths is simple the more fish killed wether it be trout or salmon the less spawners you have the less fish you will have in your river, this is my outside opinion thanks.

i think what dodo means by kippers is wee trout. some people would call very coloured salmon kippers. not talking about the actual breed of fish but just a term for them!

Just passed Newbridge (Friday evening) big flood. Peter, Tommy , DD, Speedie etc ..it may be our last chance!. Philip, Willie D, Joey, Seamie,  and friends should now do the honourable thing and take a break from fishing this weekend to give us lads a chance, please be considerate to your fellow anglers in need. Too much fishing is bad for you. lol

Ciaran,no problem,i wasnt trying to be smart, just pointing that out incase someone got the wrong end of the stick.and as far as the size limit goes, all am going to say is,put a bag limit on trout, especially at competitions.there is nothing worse than someone weighting in a nice trout of one to two pounds, only to be beaten by a bag of kippers.cut it down to three trout bag limit,

Available to help at forgetown in the new year.  need to think carefully as to timing regarding spawning, redds and floods and how to man handle and dispose of the junk. there is a lot of it!

How do you hook a salmon?

I have always believed that to hook a salmon what you have to do is to first find one commonly referred to as “a taker”. Then with a modest amount of persistence and casting skill, present the “taker” with a moving contraption  or scented object across its line of sight or smell, until eventually “the taker” through some form of involuntary  impulse, aggression, agitation, reflex, curiosity, rage, frustration, past feeding memories,  boredom or whatever grabs the object by the only means possible and this all when you are usually looking in the opposite direction or answering the mobile phone. But now after considering the recent very well publicised captures by a senior officer of our club I have had to totally  rethink.  I now  concede that sometimes the take is simply down to more than a  "spoon"ful of stupidity on the salmon’s behalf mixed with a bucketful of luck on the anglers behalf.  I also "wooden" want to say why such a take can sometimes lead to a false sense of security.  LOL.

ive now lost 2 fish this year from the river. amazing last night when i seen every move of the salmon coming to and trying to take my flying c. it was brilliant and the most visual experience ive ever had of a salmon underwater. he didnt break the waters surface but sent a bulge across the top of the water which lapped up against my bank.. class!

Ciaran, give me a phonecall if you can. ive lost your number on my phone.
